Background: Silver diamine fluoride is an effective non-invasive material for caries arrest, but its clinical use is limited due to the black discoloration it causes. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles has emerged as a promising non-discoloring alternative with antimicrobial potential. Purpose: To evaluate the antibacterial activity of a novel green-synthesized nano-silver fluoride prepared with Camellia sinensis extract and compare its efficacy with silver diamine fluoride and silver diamine fluoride combined with potassium iodide against Streptococcus mutans. Methodology: Antibacterial activity was assessed using the agar well diffusion method. Three concentrations (100%, 10% and 1%) of each material were tested and inhibition zone diameters were measured. The data were analyzed using non-parametric statistical methods with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: Silver diamine fluoride demonstrated the strongest antibacterial activity at all tested concentrations. The green-synthesized nano-silver fluoride exhibited concentration-dependent antimicrobial activity. No statistically significant differences were observed between the highest concentrations of nano-silver fluoride, silver diamine fluoride and silver diamine fluoride combined with potassium iodide. Potassium iodide alone showed no antibacterial effect. Conclusions: The green-synthesized nano-silver fluoride demonstrated significant concentration-dependent antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans. Although its inhibition zones were smaller than those of silver diamine fluoride, its activity at higher concentrations suggests promising potential as an alternative silver-based agent for non-operative caries management.
