Abstract

Reforms in health care, membership in the European Union and modern achievements in medicine and health care change the requirements in the professional preparation and implementation of nurses. The organization of work and the specifics of nursing care in intensive care facilities place increasing demands on the basic education and postgraduate qualification of nurses. The purpose of the study is to determine the attitudes and prospects for professional realization in the intensive care structures among students of the "Nursing" specialty who have undergone training in intensive care. Material and method: The object of the study are the professionals from the specialty "Nurse" from the Faculty of Public Health "prof. Dr. Tzekomir Vodenicharov, MD" at the Medical University of Sofia, who successfully completed training in "Nursing care in intensive care and intensive care". The survey was conducted in February 2024, through an anonymous survey, in which 80 students took part. Results show that the most of surveyed students have no desire for professional realization in intensive structures. The main motivating factor for students to develop their skills in the intensive structures is the opportunity to reach a higher professional level, and the main demotivating factor for professional realization in the intensive structures is the relationships in the team. Conclusion: The prospects for professional realization of nurses in intensive care units are directly dependent on the quality of training and working conditions in these units. The high level of workload and responsibility, combined with challenges in team relationships, have a significant impact on the motivation of students and healthcare professionals.
